Run Free, Little Freya. And Thank You (August 10, 2011)

This precious soul, right here.

I love you, Freya.

If you’re still with us, I hope there are many more years ahead of you. If you’re near the end, I hope it is gentle, warm, and full of love.

Thank you for keeping me company back then.

In 2011, I was trapped in a life I had helped build around a very unwell person. I didn’t understand it clearly at the time. I just knew I was small, frightened, and disappearing.

But you were there.

You were a little light in those days. A soft, brave, beautiful little thing beside me in a time that felt airless. You made the days bearable. You gave me company when I badly needed it.

I’m sorry you had to stay behind with her.

I had to leave after what she did. I had to survive it.

But I have always carried guilt about leaving you there, and I have always carried love for you too.

Wherever you are now, I hope you know you were loved.

And if you have already crossed over,

may you be valiant in Valhalla.

Run free, little Freya.
