Selected Work and Projects
A selection of professional and independent work across communications, writing, information design, visual storytelling and creative development.
My background spans more than a decade in the Australian Public Service, including communications, stakeholder engagement, information and records management, executive support, project coordination and work within complex operational environments. Alongside this, I maintain an independent creative practice across writing, design, visual art and long-form narrative development.
Media and Communications
My professional communications work has involved translating complex information into clear, accurate and accessible material for a wide range of audiences.
Across Commonwealth roles, I have worked with internal and external stakeholders, senior executives, operational teams and subject-matter experts to develop communications products, correspondence, briefings, presentations, procedural material and public-facing information.
I am particularly interested in the point where communication, structure and design meet: taking a large or complicated body of information and finding the clearest way to communicate it.
Writing and Editorial
Writing has been central to both my professional career and independent practice.
My work includes executive and stakeholder correspondence, briefing material, internal communications, procedural and explanatory writing, web content, long-form editorial work and creative nonfiction.
I enjoy shaping information at both the structural and sentence level, from determining the clearest overall narrative through to editing language for precision, tone and readability.
Outside my professional work, I write extensively on art, film, games, music, culture, design and personal history (ArtsHub).
Design and Visual Work
I use visual design as a way of organising and communicating information.
My work includes presentations, diagrams, process maps, information structures, reference material, document layouts, visual concepts and digital design.
The emphasis is generally on clarity, hierarchy and restraint: helping an audience understand what matters, how information relates and where their attention should go.
My independent visual practice also includes illustration, photography, graphic design and conceptual artwork.
Creative Projects
Alongside my professional career, I have maintained an extensive independent creative practice spanning writing, visual art, design, music and narrative development.
My principal long-term project is The Quantumyth, an interconnected body of fiction and visual development begun in 1999–2000 and now comprising more than 5,000 pages of material.
The project encompasses original worlds, characters, stories, visual development and broader creative research, and has evolved continuously alongside my professional work.
These projects have also strengthened skills that carry directly into professional environments: research, editing, information architecture, visual communication, project organisation and the ability to develop large amounts of material into a coherent finished form.
