Why this catalogue is in two parts
Mega64 has featured an enormous amount of great music across hundreds of podcast episodes, so this catalogue is presented in two parts to make it easier to read and publish as separate Blogger articles. Part 1 covers episodes 1 to 399, including 399B. Part 2 continues with episodes 400 to 828, including the bonus episode 688.5. The original episode references, song links and research notes are retained.
This catalogue registers episodes 1 to 828 of the Mega64 Podcast, together with 399B and the explicitly numbered bonus episode 688.5. Across these 830 entries, 600 have a documented music credit, an acoustic match, an identified song or an explicit record of no theme; 36 have provisional recognition results; and 194 remain unidentified. The episode register is complete for this numbered range. Identification of every opening song remains unfinished, and unresolved entries are retained individually so that gaps stay visible.
The latest numbered release in the official audio feed at the research cutoff is episode 828, Visiting the Horny Hollywood Vampire Club on Halloween, published on 7 November 2026 UTC, or 8 November in Canberra. Reissues, aftershows, the Poorly Played Stream and other separate series do not receive additional numbers in this register. An unnumbered Christmas Cast from the current feed is noted separately at the end.
The opening as a musical joke
For a long stretch of Mega64 podcast history, the opening song could provide the first punchline. A piece of music might follow a passing reference, interrupt an argument, introduce a television memory or turn a crew member’s performance into an improvised theme. The shout that introduced it became a recognisable part of the programme. A song catalogue therefore records something about the timing and texture of individual episodes as well as the crew’s musical interests.
The earliest surviving index gives The Aquabats’ The Lonely Horseman a central place, while also recording exceptions from the beginning. Episode 5 credits Derrick’s rendition of My Humps; episode 21 credits his Sailor Moon parody; several location recordings list no theme. The later rotation reaches from children’s cover albums and television music to hip hop, alternative rock, novelty videos and fan made remixes. These credits belong to particular episodes, so a general description of an era cannot establish what played on every week within it.
Episode 408 supplies a particularly clear example. Its contemporary link dump identifies Bill Gates by Bad Credit at 1:34, before references to Gates and mosquitoes. The full song is catalogued elsewhere as Bill Gates (He Owes Me Five Bucks). Both the episode and a current song upload are linked in its catalogue entry. This is the sort of small musical connection that can disappear when a recording is replaced, edited or removed.
The preservation record is uneven. The closed Mega64 wiki survives in archived snapshots, with a substantial theme column through episode 205 and conspicuous blanks. The Mega64 Podcast Link Dump preserves later episode notes, sometimes explicitly labelling the theme and sometimes merely linking music discussed elsewhere. Its first music link is therefore not automatically treated as an opening credit. Community discussions describe copyright claims as a reason the random rotation ended and also report the loss of a fan compilation. Those discussions provide context, rather than a precise date for a single universal change.
The recurring themes
The Lonely Horseman is credited to The Aquabats in the early index and can be matched acoustically in later openings. It should be distinguished from Sequence Erase, which Mega64’s own site identifies as the original public access series theme. The two songs occupy different parts of the group’s musical history.
BARx’s account gives a primary source for the pandemic era change. His 2020 theme began as the second place entry in the Mega64antine theme contest and was then selected for the main podcast. The extended recording is titled Mega64 Podcast Theme “Unsolved Mysteries Sequence Erase” on his Bandcamp page and develops the Sequence Erase melody. His later release is titled Mega64 Podcast Theme 2023. Both composer uploads are linked below, and matching entries in the catalogue link directly to the appropriate version.

Reading the catalogue
W means an archived wiki credit; L means a theme explicitly named in the link dump; M means an acoustic match to a reference recording; I means a song identified from an opening excerpt, with any uncertainty about the recording stated; N means a source explicitly records no theme; C means a provisional automated recognition candidate; and U means the music remains unidentified. A C entry is a lead for checking, not a confirmed credit. A U entry does not mean that no song played.
Song titles link to a specific YouTube video where a sufficiently clear match was found. A title followed by “YouTube search” opens a search instead. That label is also used for ambiguous covers, improvised performances and unspecified recordings. A link to an original song does not establish the exact recording heard in a crew performance. Episode links provide the recording or the archived episode page; Credit links identify the written source or recognition result.
Acoustic checks used opening excerpts, longer scans and, for some unresolved recurring themes, complete audio files. A match establishes the recording’s presence; its role as the opening theme still needs manual checking where the match occurs late. This is not a full listening audit of every episode. Timestamps locate a matching excerpt, rather than necessarily its first note, and inserted advertising can shift the current audio timing. The catalogue does not inventory every musical quotation or closing song.
